CASE STUDY
UX / UI Design // Web Design // Origin Wireless
CHALLENGE
At Matter Communications, I was tasked with designing the UX/UI for the Origin Wireless company website. As seen on the homepage, Origin Wireless uses “Origin’s WiFi Sensing™ technology and custom applications transform smart devices into virtual sensors for a true intelligent home ecosystem — transforming the way we work, play, and keep our homes and loved ones safe.
PROBLEM TO IDENTIFY
Originally, the website appeared outdated. It was difficult to understand what the goals of the company were and how Origin Wireless differentiates to their competitors. With this in mind, we were tasked with revamping the website to feel more modern and fresh to their targeted audience, while also clearly describing the purpose of the Origin Wireless brand and why they are the go-to company to utilize for wifi-sensing technology in comparison to their competitors.
PROCESS
I partnered closely with the Art Director, Copywriter, Web Developer, and Video Team to build a more cohesive and compelling visual story for the Origin Wireless website. My primary role was to collaborate with both the internal team and the client to ensure their full company story was communicated clearly—organizing complex information into an intuitive, customer-focused experience.
Planning & Content Outline - Once we aligned on the core messaging and essential information, I led the team in developing a comprehensive content outline. This outline served as the written blueprint for the website, helping guide structure, hierarchy, and storytelling in collaboration with the copywriter and strategy team.
Site Mapping - Using Slickplan, we translated the content outline into a detailed sitemap that defined the site’s structure and information flow. This step ensured alignment on navigation and page relationships before moving into wire framing.
Low-Fidelity Wireframes & UI Concepts - After sitemap approval, we created low-fidelity wireframes to establish layout and content placement, while simultaneously designing homepage UI concepts to explore visual direction and interaction patterns.
High-Fidelity Wireframes - Once the UI direction was established, we delivered three distinct homepage design concepts to the client. This gave them the opportunity to compare visual approaches and select the direction that best aligned with their brand and goals before moving forward. After the final direction was approved, I applied the chosen visual system across fifteen high-fidelity wireframes. These designs became the detailed guidelines for development and ensured consistency across the site prior to build-out in WordPress.
Animation Collaboration - To support Origin’s WiFi Sensing technology, the client requested custom animations. I worked closely with the animator to ensure each video clearly and accurately demonstrated how the technology functions within specific real-world environments.
QA & Launch Support - During development, I partnered directly with the developer to ensure the final build matched the approved wireframes. I also led QA efforts to identify and resolve bugs or inconsistencies, ensuring a polished and accurate experience ahead of launch.
RESULT
The selected concept stood out for its use of Origin Wireless’s secondary color palette, moving beyond the original teal and black to create a more modern, elevated look.
The client was especially drawn to the use of circular shapes and linear elements to visually represent invisible WiFi-sensing technology. This approach helped translate a complex, unseen system into something intuitive and visually engaging, ultimately making the technology easier for users to understand. As a result, this concept was chosen as the foundation for the full site design and applied across all remaining pages.
